I’m sure you have heard the terms “Set goals”, “Write down your goals”, or “Fix Future Goals”. Why are goals so important? Is it possible to get by without having a goal? How do we measure how big a goal should be?

How And Why You Should Set Goals

For a long period of my life, I didn’t have or set any goals. I was happy to be working at a job I didn’t particularly like, and was comfortable just making it by. As long as I was able to pay my bills, I was happy.

To be truthful, while I may have heard of goal setting, I was not overly familiar with the concept of fixing future goals. I do wish I discovered it an earlier stage of my life.

There is no way around it , setting goals is a no brainer !

When Is A Goal To Big?

When it comes to life, most of us are taught to get good grades in school, go to college, get a good job and start a family. These are all good goals , but why be good when you can be great.

Now of course there is nothing wrong with that philosophy, but why not reach for something that makes you get goosebumps. If there is anything I have learned in my life, its that anything in life is achievable.

Remember when you were a kid, and your parents would say you can do anything you put your mind to. That is a pretty accurate statement, the only problem is we get in our own way.

Life is so much better when you have purpose. Wouldn’t you rather live a life of no regrets, than a life wondering what if? When you set goals, you should be setting great big goals that scare you to a point where you may even have uncertainty about its obtainability.

A goal should not be easy for you to get to as we need to be challenged in life. If your destination seems easy, are you really using your true potential?

Try to set a goal that you find so extraordinary you question whether you can complete it. The old saying life is short, well it is true, and if not lived on purpose it can be pretty dull.

One thing to remember is that what we are capable of is all limited to what we believe we can do. I find that if you feel in your mind you can do something, with determination and the ability to withstand setbacks, it can be done.

Why You Should Fix Future Goals:

If a plane leaves the airport without a flight destination, where would it end up? How would a ship sail without an arrival plan?

Any company, or building that was ever built, all started with a goal.

A goal gives you something to work towards, while allowing you to take control of where your life is going.

Whenever you begin a process in which you want to achieve something, it should always start and end with the goal in mind.

In 1979 there was a Harvard MBA study on goal setting which took a look at the graduating class to find out how many set goals and planned to achieve them.

The question that was presented was, “Have you set written goals and created a plan for their attainment”?

Right before they graduated, this was discovered:

  • Of the entire class 84% did not set any goals
  • 13% wrote down goals without a plan on how to achieve them
  • Finally only 3% had both written goals and a plan to complete them

The astonishing conclusion:

Just 10 years later, the ones that just wrote down their goals which was the 13%, doubled the amount of their incomes compared to the 84% that did not write goals down.

The 3% that wrote goals with a plan to complete them, had salaries up to ten times as much as the other 97% .

Truly amazing!!

How To Set A Goal:

The first thing you want to do is to pick a goal that will get you so inspired, you smile every time you think about it.

You want it to be what makes you jump out of bed in the morning ready to make the most out of the day.

To help insure that it is something that will motivate you, ask yourself ” What will I get as an end result “. Will it satisfy you? If it’s a career goal, is it something that you could see yourself doing for free

It does not matter to much what your reasoning is. Let’s say your goal is fitness related, it could be that you want to get in shape to have a better body. You want better health, or even to use it as a form of income. This is of course as long as you do not have bad intent as a reason.

Ideally one goal at a time is all you should focus on, with no more than two for optimum results.

A goal that is written down is more equal to a commitment than just having it in your mind. It also gives you something to reference, and a reason to do what you are doing to complete it.

What Now?

Only after you pick your goal, should you now start to implement a plan on how to complete it. Try not to think of how to do something until you first decide upon it. This will make you more open to believing you can achieve it.

If you want something bad enough and believe you can accomplish it, you will open up your creative mind and ideas will begin to flow.

Nothing will come to fruition however without action. The difference between the doers and the wishers is one takes action while the other wishes for a result without taking action. In the words of the great Tony Robbins, “Knowledge is not power, its potential power. Execution will trump power any day”. So one should fix future goals of his life and work accordingly to achieve that goal. Side by side you should also meditate to improve your life.

Conclusion:

On May 25, 1961 a goal was set by President John F. Kennedy. It stated that the United States Of America would safely get a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

While most people considered this to be impossible, this tremendous goal was accomplished on July 20, 1969. On that day Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon safely and unharmed.

How big or small your is goal does not matter.

It is imperative that you put the time in. Do not quit early on a goal as you may be closer than you think to its attainment.

Remember the only who fails is the one who does not try.

Fix Future Goals, write them down and execute a plan to achieve them, and live the life of your dreams!
