Celestine Chua: "Everyone faces challenges in life. It's just a matter of figuring out how to work around them and use them to your advantage."

How to Overcome Life Challenges and Obstacles

In order to overcome your challenges and obstacles, there are certain things you must do. All of them can be categorized under three subheadings They are as follows:

  • ➡1.Put your mind in the right state
  • ➡2.Think solution
  • ➡3.Take action

Put your mind in the right state

When it comes to overcoming challenges and obstacles, the first battle you need to win is the battle of the mind. The battle of mind has to do with your thoughts, perceptions and feelings about your challenges.

If you can win in your mind, obstacles and challenges will bow before you.

Winning over your challenges demands that you think the kind of thought and develop a kind of perception that put you in the position where you can creatively deal with your challenges and obstacles.

This mindset is popularly called positive mental attitude(PMA)

Louise L. Hay said “I do not fix problems. I fix my thinking. Then problems fix themselves.”

In order to put your mind in the right state, understanding and accepting the following realities are critical.

1. Accept that it is normal to have a problem

The truth is problem is part of life. You are not facing challenges because the gods hate you or because you are destine for ill-luck.

Everyone at one point or the other would have to carry the cross of challenges and obstacles on their life journey; it doesn’t matter if the person is an acclaimed saint.

The reason most people lose the power to deal with their challenges is because they think having a problem is a problem.

Theodore Rubin: "The issue isn't that there are issues. The issue is that we expect something different and believe that having a problem is a problem."

If you can tune your mind to the truth that having a problem is normal, then you have put yourself in a position where you can creatively deal with your problem.

2. Forgive yourself

There are times that we make choices and take actions that ended up putting us in serious challenges. If your are currently suffering or facing challenges based on your past choices and actions, one thing you need to do right now is to forgive yourself.

If you continue to beat yourself over your previous misdeed, you will never move beyond your current level.

3. Learn from your mistakes

Having made mistakes already, have it in mind that you cannot undo what you have done, but you can learn from it.

What choice did you make that you shouldn’t have made. What factors made you to settle for your choice. In what way did you get your choice wrong? How can you avoid such mistake in the future?

Pay attention to these questions and make sure you provide answers to them to the best of your knowledge.

Be wise by learning from your mistakes and making sure it doesn’t repeat in the future.

Anonymous: "You can't change the past, but you can learn from your mistakes and forgive yourself for not knowing better. "

4. Let go of the past

If you really want to overcome your challenges and move forward to the next phase of your life, you cannot do it by holding on to the past.

Let whatever has happened in past be in the past whether they are good or bad. Look into the future and see how you can create a better life for yourself.

5. Cultivate positive thinking

It is easy to think negatively at the face of life difficulty. It is important to know that negative thinking won’t help you in anyway, but would rather compound your problem.

Always have it in mind that you are not your problem or challenge. Problem will come and go, but you will always remain with yourself. Your problem and challenges of today are temporary and transient.

Instead of panicking or pitying yourself, embrace positive thinking.

The bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” In the midst of your challenges, what you think about matters.

Discipline yourself to think positive thoughts. Believe with no iota of doubt in your mind that you will overcome. If you can approach your challenges and obstacles with a positive mindset, you will become unstoppable.

Think solution

Having put your mind in the right state, the next most important thing you will need to do in order to overcome your challenges and obstacles is to start thinking about how you can provide solutions to your problems.

Brian Tracy: "Leaders consider and discuss solutions. Followers consider and discuss the issues. "

In thinking out solution to a given problem, the first thing you should do is to identify your major problem and its root cause.

The problem most people have when solving a problem is the mistake of dealing with the symptoms of the problem instead of its cause.

When a person is suffering from malaria for instance, the malaria will come with certain symptoms such as high temperature, headache, and cold and so on. The truth is that, there are drugs and treatments that one can take to reduce the effect of those symptoms.

However, if one does that, the symptom would subside for a while and reappear again, why?

The reason is simply because, malaria, which is the cause of those symptoms have not been dealt with.

In the case above, the best thing to do is to identify the root cause of those symptoms and deal with it.

When you are dealing with any challenge or problem in your life, think, reflect and find out the root cause of the problem. If you can deal with the root cause, the problem will disappear.

After you have discovered the root cause of your challenge or problem, the next thing to do is to think out how you can deal with it or solve it.

Make sure your strategy will effectively deal with the problem or challenge.

In getting the right solution you might need the service of a life coach or get books that address your particular problem so as to make an informed decision about ways you can deal with it.

Shayne Mcclendon wrote,

  • “I will breath.
  • I will not let my stress level break me.
  • I will think of solutions.
  • I will not let my stress level break me.
  • I will not simply breath.
  • And it will be okay.
  • Because I don’t quit.”

Take action

Having identified the root cause of your problem, and coming up with right solution, the next important thing to do is to take action.

No matter how good your solution is, if you don’t take action on it, you will be liken to a toothless dog who only bark but can’t bite.

Knowing the solution to your problem or the strategy to overcoming your obstacles won’t get them eliminated, it is the action you take by applying your discovered solutions or strategy that will make a difference.

Somebody once said, “The difference between who you are and what you want to become is what you do.” The road to being is doing.

If you can take deliberate action in the direction of your problem and challenges, you will definitely get them out of you way.

What are your biggest challenges today?

What are those problems that have lingered too long in your life?

You can’t afford to keep looking at your challenges and obstacles thinking they would phase out one day on their own. You see, there is no reality as such.

Problems don’t solve themselves; you must be deliberate about solving them.

The truth is every problem has a solution. If a problem can’t be solved completely, it can be managed.

No problem should be so big that it prevents you from maximizing your full potential.

Consider your situation see what you can do about your challenges and obstacles using the strategy I just shared.

Always have it in mind that Knowledge alone is powerless, only action can make a difference.
